French fashion house Hermes was recently blasted on the New York City-based blog, The Awl, for selling a T-shirt with a heart-attack inducing price tag of US$91,500 at its men’s store on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. And that is not to include sales tax that would be around US$8000. According to the author, Choire Sicha, the pricey shirt hangs unobtrusively on one of the store’s shelves among other Hermes merchandise with more down-to-earth prices.
Sicha described the tee as “made out of crocodile leather, luxurious and beautifully sewn.” He didn’t try it on but he thinks it is “rather uncomfortable, and perhaps a little heavy, for a t-shirt.” Read more
