NYC’s most expensive parking space costs $1 million

The most expensive garage in the world is up for grabs. That is if you have $1 million to spare. The parking space is conveniently located at the posh East 11th St. in Manhattan, New York City.

While average New Yorkers would see the parking spot’s price tag as outrageous (it’s six times the average price of a home in the U.S!), the filthy rich wouldn’t mind spending as much since parking space are rare commodity in chichi Manhattan.

According to Dolly Lenz, vice chairwoman of real estate firm Prudential Douglas Elliman, the parking space is “for someone who wants complete privacy. You can drive in and not be seen again. It’s for the type of person who finds that attractive. It could be a celebrity or a business person who is camera shy.”

The hot space is about 12 feet wide, 23 feet long and more than 15 feet high. An elevator lift can be installed to accommodate another car. It sits below an eight-story prewar loft building that is currently being converted into a luxury condominium. Interested parties, however, should buy either an 8,000 square-foot town house unit or the penthouse to get their hands on the parking space. The penthouse is expected to be listed for $38.8 million upon completion. It has its own 3,000-square-foot terrace and a shower that pumps water infused with vitamin C and aloe.

The parking spot will have its own deed and sales contract, and be charged maintenance fees, just as a condo would.
