Hollywood actor Brad Pitt was tapped by French fashion and fragrance house Chanel to be the spokesperson for the latest edition of its best selling scent, Chanel No. 5. At $4,200 per 30-ounce bottle, the Grand Extrait edition of this iconic women’s scent is the most expensive perfume Chanel has ever come out with, trumping its previous 7.5-ounce version which costs $2100.
Dubbed as a bottle of the perfume in “its rarest, most collectible form,” the Grand Extrait contains the exact same formula of the classic Chanel No. 5 except that it is packaged in an exquisite and updated version of its faceted bottle, said to have been made using a combination of molds and the special handiwork of seasoned glass-makers. The bottle is then placed in a “hand-assembled, artisan-crafted case,” a work of art in itself. Online fashion retailer Net-a-Porter.com, which describes itself as the World’s Premier Online Luxury Fashion Destination, is preparing to sell highly embellished red dresses by Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana, each with a staggering price tag of £32,000 (approximately $49,000). With such price tags that can buy several brand new cars, the dresses are easily the online store’s most expensive items to date. French fashion house Hermes was recently blasted on the New York City-based blog, The Awl, for selling a T-shirt with a heart-attack inducing price tag of US$91,500 at its men’s store on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. And that is not to include sales tax that would be around US$8000. According to the author, Choire Sicha, the pricey shirt hangs unobtrusively on one of the store’s shelves among other Hermes merchandise with more down-to-earth prices.
Sicha described the tee as “made out of crocodile leather, luxurious and beautifully sewn.” He didn’t try it on but he thinks it is “rather uncomfortable, and perhaps a little heavy, for a t-shirt.” Read more

New Zealand footwear designer Kathryn Wilson, in collaboration with Sarah Hutchings of Orsini Fine Jewellery, has created the world’s most expensive high-heeled shoe.
